The role of youth in achieving SDGs
Indonesia is a country that has abundant natural resources, the fourth largest population,
and the country with the largest islands, as well as a country
that has so much diversity; cultural diversity, language diversity,
until diversity of religions such as; Islam, Christianity,
Hinduism, Buddha, konghucu. Islam religion became the majority in Indonesia, even though
Islam is majority but Muslim always keeps the tolerance to another religion.
According to that, Indonesia to be better for achieve the point of SDGs, and
also Indonesia has a lot of youth who has a lot of potential to assist in the
achievement of the SDGs.
SDGS is the length of the
sustainable development goals that is a document that will become a reference
in the framework of development and negotiations of the countries in the world.
The goals of SDGs; No poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality
education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean
energy, decent work and economic growth,
industry, innovation, and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable
cities and communicates, responsible consumption and production, climate
action, life below water, life on land, peace, justice and strong institutions,
partnerships for the goals.
According from the goals of SDGs
that can welfare and advice the state, but Indonesia is still not able to
achieve the 17 points goal because Indonesia is still experiencing a monetary
crisis, and reliance against other countries. As we know in terms of education,
Indonesia is still lagging behind, a lot of Indonesian people who have not
concern for the education although Indonesia government has required the people
to study until 12 years for education. The quality education in Indonesia is
still lagging whereas the education is the important factor to change all bad condition
and also can be easy to achieve SDGs. In
term of poverty, Indonesia people still destitution and the impact of that is
development government. In term of economic, Indonesia economical is still bad
development, than has a lot reason why the goals of SDGs are still not achieved
by Indonesia.
According to the goals of SDGs
and Indonesia phenomena, so must be cooperation between government and all
society who stay in Indonesia. The most important must be existence from the
youth, 2 roles of youth in achieving SDGs;
The first, the role of youth is as agent of
change. We as the youth must be help our country toward a better country. The youth as agent of change can assist in
the achievement of SDGs with change the mindset of the society about the
important of education, without education the society will be no sense of
concern or sense to think of the country in the future. So from that we as youth must be change our
mindset and invite people to care about education. Change and invite the
society to concern for education with create event “Desa Binaan” where the
youth build a village and guide the village for more advanced again in the
field of education, health, and other fields. For example referring to the
society about the importance of education in this era, like youth could teach
to children for learn together, learn English language, lifestyle,
socialization, as well as urge people to live a healthy life, and harnessing
the skills of the society to become entrepreneurship, so that can eradicate
poverty. If all youth do like that, the
goals point of SDGs will be achieved easily and got contributions from all the
people who live in Indonesia.
Second, the role of youth in achieving SDGs is
youth as social control. It means that youth have high social caring; the youth
who have attention to society development, the development of the country, the
development of bureaucracy. With youth as social control it should be
controlling all causes bureaucracy and help the society to have knowledge about
the government. The event of “Desa
Binaan” will trigger youth to know all problems of bureaucracy in the village.
It is to be welfare the society and also can get the goals of SDGs. So, all of
the roles are very important and can achieve the goals of SDGs.
